LASHI
 
Lashi are sometimes called Lacheik. They are also of the Kachin stock.Lashi have two separate sub-groups: "Galaung" and "Madein". Lashi live mainly in the Lawhkaung border area, Hpimaw region and sources of the Chipwe River. In olden times the makes wear topknots on their heads. The traditional male dress is big, black, baggy trousers and a jacket, but worn with an open front. A black cloth approximately 3 meters is wrapped around the head as a head-dress. Some females wear a kind of skirt while others wear the longyi. A belt decorated with small bells or ceramic rings is worn around the torso. The females also wear silver and other ornaments.
Manaw festivals, house-warming and harvest festivals are celebrated.
At some village there are "Houses for the Bachelors and Virgins".
A curious custom of the Lashi is the "calling of the Lunar Nat Princess (Goddess of Love)" by shaking a betelnut container.
The system of administration is by "duwas" (traditional headman).
After the fieldworks is finished, the men usually go out hunting while the women engage in traditional weaving.
Gigaw dance is one of the popular dances of the Kachins.
