YIN

There are two Yin sub-tribes: the Black Yin and the Striped Yin. They are classified under the Wa-Palaung sub-group. The Black Yins are sometimes called "Yinlam" or Black Kayin. The Striped Yins are also called "Striped Kayins". They are found in Pinlon,Mongne, Legya and Kyesimamsan areas.
The Black Yins get their name from the color of their clothes. Striped Yins wear white dresses with red stripes horizontal stripes. The men dress in big, baggy trousers and wear shoulder bags across their chests. The women have red scarves on their heads and usually wear dresses that reach their knees. They also have black thongs wrapped under their knees and clothes around their thighs. Their dresses are black and have red tassels hanging in front. They have silver earplugs on their ears. Rings of cane are worn around the waist. The more modem dresses have silver coins sewn onto it. The boys usually give the intended girl a betelnut container as a token of love. In olden days the Black Yin women have the sun and 12 spots tattooed on their wrists. They play a kind of a flute made of dried gourd. They are mainly agricultural people.
