Lisu, Lishaw, Yawyin are all of the same stock. Only the names vary with the
locality. It is believed that the Lisu are the latest tribe that entered into
Myanmar territory from the North. Some Lisu are found in the Lolo sub-group
that went eastwards in their migration.
|
Lisu are found in both Shan and Kachin States. The Lisu are recognised as being
one of the six Kachin stock by the Kachin authorities. The Lisu girls at Putao
wear skirts and have hats decorated with beads. Apart from Lisu of Putao, there
are also Lisu at Kyaington, Bahmaw and Loilem areas. Some Lisu are also found
in the Kokang region.
|
They celebrate the harvest, house-warming and nat festivals according to
their ancient customs. They are primarily engaged in agriculture and like to
hunt also. Dried gourds are used as flutes.
