They are one of the Jinghpaw groups from the Kachin stock. It is actually a
name given to them based on the locality. Some are called "Dulengs" and some
"Dulings". They are found mainly in the triangle area of northern Kachin State.
This triangle are is the Hukaung Valley and the area between the N'maihka and
the Malaihka valleys. Generally this triangle are extends form the confluence
of the N'maihka and the Malihka rivers to Sumprabum at the southern tip of
Putao region.

The Khatkus are usually intermingled with the Maru, Azi, Lashi. Their customs
and traditions are the same as the Jinghpaw. Their dresses are also the
same.The harvest festival, marriage ceremony, Manaw or New Year celebration,
house warming and funerals are celebrated. Gongs, coral beads and the nat
shrines are specially venerated and value.

They are mostly agricultural people but the men will go hunting in their spare
time.

The village shaman is venerated as someone to foretell the future. They have a
custom of sending back the spirit of the dead. Also they have the custom of
asking for compensation if someone violates their customs or traditions. If the
culprit is unable to pay for the compensation the whole family is liable on his
behalf.
