Ministry Of Information

The Ministry of Information is made up of the Minister's Office, two
departments and three enterprises.
|
| The two departments are:
|
|
-Myanma Television and Radio Department (MTRD) and
|
|
-Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD)
|
| The three enterprises are: |
| - Printing and Publishing Enterprise (PPE). |
| - News and Periodicals Enterprise (NPE) and |
| - Motion Picture Enterprise (MPE) |
|
|
| The objectives of the Ministry are: |
| 1.
|
To inform the public of major tasks being implemented in accord with the policy
of the Government, progress of long-term and short-term plans implementation
and significant events and incidents;
|
| 2.
|
To educate or agitate through organization for enhancing the knowledge of the
public; and |
| 3.
|
To entertain the public. |

Myanma Television and Radio Department (TRD)
|
|
| Myanmar Television and Radio Department (TRD) informs, educates and entertains
the public. |
|
|
|
The MTRD is informing and imparting Knowledge on activities of the various
departments, erprises and organizations which are carrying out spective tesks
under the Government.
|
| (a) Radio |
| The broadcasting branch presents programmes in accord with
policy 16 hours a day on weekdays and 17 hours a day on holidays. It boradcasts
9 programmes on information, 27 programmes on education and 32 programmes on
entertainment. Apart from regular programmes, occasions of significant days as
well as Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony, Union Day flag saluting
ceremony, Armed Forces Day parade, Inter- State/Division soccer matches,
Defence Services Commander-in-Chiefs shield soccer matches and goodwill
football matches are carried alive. |
| (b) Television |
| Television programmes are run by programming section,
production section, news section and outdoor telecasting section. |
| (c) Engineering section |
| Re-transmission stations have been built extensively. During
the period from 1 April 1995 to 14 November 1997, re-transmission stations were
built in Chin-shwe-haw, Moenai, Namlan Tamonye, Bawlake, Sumprabum, Hsipaw,
Linkhe, Mongpan, Lechar, Mongyong Kyeethi, Mintha, (Bhamo) Myothit, Indawgyi
(Lonton), Mongyu, Chipwe, Kaungkhar, Mongtong, Kanpaikti, Homalin, Leshi,
Momeik, Mantong, Yambye, Phekon, Pinlaung, Tongzan, Mongpyin, Kya-in Seikkyi,
Yay, Myawady, Myaing-gyi-ngu, Mongkoe, Tarle, Mindat, Phaya Thonsu, Aungbar,
Namyon, Sawlaw, Winkaung, Homein, Hsadon, Monhtaw, Mongphyat, Lahe, Bago,
Kongyan, Monywa, Nawnghkio, Kyaikdon, Loikaw, Labutta, Bogalay, Nawngmon,
Wombat, Machanbaw and Karmaing

Significant accomplishments
|
|
| The following accomplishments were achieved singnificantly. |
| -
|
Both radio and television branches are always innovating to broadcast
interesting political, economic and social programmes. |
| -
|
Altogether 76 live broadcasts have been made on Armed Forces Days and football
matches. |

|
The engineering section has made live broadcasts 76 times during the period
1-4-95 to 14-11-97 and its PA section has assisted on State-sponsored occasions
327 times. In addition to the 62 existing re-transmission stations, 58 more
retransmission stations were built during the above-mentioned period to reach a
larger audience. Hence, there are altogether 120 stations nation-wide. |
| The administration section accepts commercial
advertisements to earn income for MTRD in accordance with the State's economic
policy. During the period 1-4-95 to 14-11-97, altogether 28,478,955.96 kyats
and 7,032,757.28 US dollars were earned. |
