the transportation needs of the passengers and goods with State-
owned motor vehicles and train, scrutinizing and issuing licences
motor- vehicles and motor-vessels, issuing of rules and regulations
for the safety of road users,registering motor-vehicles and issuing
of driving licences. |

| Special activities of Road Transport were as follows-. |
| (a) |
For the benefit of the people to get the
vocational training, driving schools are
opened in Yangon and Mandalay and
Electric ARC Welder Training Courses
are given at the Base Workshop No. 2 in Yangon. |

In order to get the foreign investment, Road Transport has opened a joint venture company with Daewoo as Myammar Daewoo Construction Machinery Co.,Ltd., (M.D.C.M.) in the year 1997 for the following activities: |

| With a fleet of over 6o. Taxis service is provided within the greater Yangon city limits. By opening temporary taxi stands passenger transportation is taken part in national ceremonies and festivals. Taxi performances were as follows:

| The Ministry of Rail Transportation is Constituted with five departments. They are Transport Adminstration Department, Myanma Railways, Road Transport, Transport and Planning Department, and Central Institute of Transport and Communications. |
