Ministry Of Livestock and Fisheries

Union of Myanmar
is an agricultural country which tries to promote all-round development of
other sectors. Myanmar has adopted a market-oriented economy, and in line with
this policy, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries is striving to promote the
livestock and fishery sector of Myanmar.
|
|
For the economic
development of the livestock and fishery sector, the Government and the
Ministry has laid down short-term and long-term plans and associated
strategies. This includes prevention and conservation of resources for
fish/shrimp and other marine components, assisting farmers in rural livestock
development through distribution of pedigree breeding stocks, animal feeds,
veterinary biologics and therapeutic medicines, prevention and treatment of
livestock diseases, promotion of the bee-keeping industry etc. |

There are five
Departments, one Enterprise and one Institute under the Ministry of livestock
and Fisheries, and the main functions of the Institutions are as follows: |

Directorate of Livestock and Fisheries
|
|

Directorate of
Livestock and Fisheries is directly responsible to the Minister for livestock
and Fisheries, and formulates plans, coordinates, supervises, monitors and
evaluates the performance of the livestock and fisheries sector of the Union of
Myanmar.The Directorate also gives guidance on formulation of projects and
conducts foreign relations.

The Ministry of
Livestock and Fisheries was seperately formed to actively concentrate on the
development of the livestock and fishery of the Union of Myanmar, and to
acquire foreign exchange for the country. To achieve this, the following
training programmes were conducted from 1983. |
